 Equine Gastroscope Services

Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome (EGUS) is a common syndrome diagnosed in any horse, especially in our performance and sport horses. Accurate diagnosis allows a tailored treatment plan for each horse.

Gastroscopy is performed using a specialized flexible endoscope that is passed down through the horse's esophagus to directly visualize the stomach itself. Direct visualization allows diagnosis of the presence of ulceration, the location and the degree of ulceration – all important factors in treatment plans.

Some common clinical signs that a horse may be suffering from Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome include, but not limited to:

  • Poor performance

  • Girthiness

  • Weight loss or poor topline

  • Mild recurrent colic

  • Unwillingness to go forward under saddle

  • Behavioral changes
